How to Track Habits on iPhone

iPhone has no dedicated habit tracker built in, but Reminders can be repurposed for it. Here's how, and where it stops being enough.

Using Reminders as a makeshift habit tracker

  1. Create a list for your habit

Open Reminders and create a new list, e.g. "Daily Habits".

  2. Add a reminder for each habit

Add one reminder per habit you want to track, with a title like "Stretch" or "Read 10 minutes".

  3. Set it to repeat daily

Open the reminder's details, set a time, and turn on Repeat set to Daily.

  4. Check it off each day

Mark it complete when done. It resets and reappears the next day automatically.

Where this falls short

Reminders shows whether today's instance is done, not a history. There's no streak count, no calendar view of which days you completed a habit, and no way to see a habit alongside your tasks and calendar events in one daily view.

Habits, tasks and your calendar, in one view

DayDone tracks daily habit completion with streaks and a progress calendar, alongside your tasks and Apple Calendar events.

Frequently asked questions

Can Reminders show a streak for a repeating task?

No, it only shows whether the current instance is complete, it doesn't count consecutive days.

Does DayDone replace the Reminders app?

Not necessarily, some people use both. DayDone adds habit tracking and a combined daily view alongside its own task list.

Can DayDone show Calendar events too?

Yes, Apple Calendar events appear alongside your tasks and habits in the same daily view.
